$60,500 raised to save Sugar House Fireworks; $14,500 still needed by June 25
SALT LAKE CITY (June 1, 2010) — A group working to “Save the Sugar House Fireworks” announced today it still needs $14,500 by June 25 to save the entire show. Community supporters have already raised $60,500, which was needed today to apply for the city permit.
“We have already received tremendous support from the businesses and residents in the community who are as passionate as we are about saving this 22-year-old Fourth of July tradition,” said Scott Workman, the event organizer. “We appreciate the amazing efforts that have helped us come this far and hope the community will join together to help us raise the remaining amount needed to save the entire fireworks show.”
Two new businesses have announced promotions that will benefit the effort:
- From June 7-19, Ray’s Barber Shop, located at 1328 South 2100 East, will donate one dollar from each haircut.
- On June 8, six Utah Jamba Juice locations will donate 15 percent of sales to the effort. Participating locations include Sugar House, Fort Union, Brickyard, Taylorsville, Bountiful and South Jordan.
Eight Noodles & Company locations donated 25 percent of sales on May 18, raising $5,000 for the cause. The Sugar House Whole Foods Market donated 5 percent of sales on May 25, for a total of $3006.
Along with the donations, local vendors are selling “I helped save the Sugar House Fireworks” buttons for $1 each. Buttons are available at Noodles & Company, Whole Foods Market and Jamba Juice, along with other businesses across the valley. Individuals who purchase buttons will receive a discount on purchases at participating locations and receive preferred seating at the fireworks show on Saturday, July 3.
